Our Party BlogHave your say about all things democraticOctober 27, 2008ANNIE HALL~ONE OF OUR TWO 2008 ESTES KEFAUVER AWARD WINNERS
Annie HallBefore she was Annie Hall, she was Anne Impink, and she jumped into politics in 1969 as a member of the Young Democrats in Boston. While attending Newton College she canvassed door-to-door for Gary Studds' successful campaign for U.S. Senate. Her Republican, Catholic parents instilled in her the importance of volunteering in the community and serving others. After college, she began volunteering with the Youth Coalition for Senator Edmund Muskie's Presidential Campaign-and she was later hired by the Muskie campaign as Coordinator of Border and Southern States. Her tough boss was a Tennessean named Jim Hall. Anne and Jim had a good working relationship and started dating during the Democratic National Convention in Miami in 1972. They married in 1973, moved to Tennessee in 1975, and Anne Impink became Annie Hall. In 1976 Annie ran to become a delegate for President Jimmy Carter's campaign. While her bid was unsuccessful, Annie was appointed an at-large delegate. Annie worked hard for President Carter, and has worked on every Presidential campaign since. Molly Cooper, Annie Hall's daughter, has this to say about her mother: "My parents taught my sister and me to find the candidate you agree with the most and work very hard for that person. So in 1996, Mom found a candidate who she agreed with 100%; she ran, herself, a successful campaign and earned a seat on the Hamilton County School Board. Annie Impink Hall (also known as Mom, Momma and Ampy) is a woman of honesty, integrity and her word. When Annie tells you that she will do something, she does it with fire and passion and all her heart. My Momma is my role model and I hope that one day I will set the same great examples for my children and grandchildren as she continues to set for hers." Chairman John Bailes says that Annie Hall "displays that special skill for political organization and real time achievement. And this year she succeeded in directing the first Marilyn Lloyd Dinner, which will continue because of Annie's great success. I am proud to honor her with this award." Post a Reply...
