More than 350 people attended the 2008 Estes Kefauver Dinner last night which was capped off with the celebratory and Motown tunes of Chattanooga band Love, Peace, and Happiness.During the dinner, U.S. Congressman Jim Cooper called Barack Obama one of the most brilliant presidential candidates we've ever had and the right person for the country and the world. State Senator Andy Berke said we need to elect U.S. Senate Candidate Bob Tuke because Tuke will work for energy independence, better jobs, and more advocacy for veterans. Tuke spoke and contrasted his progressive positions with Senator Lamar Alexander's failure to lead on energy, the economy, and veterans. Pam Ladd, Co-Chair of the event, read a message from Governor Phil Bredesen. Chairman John Bailes recognized more than 20 elected officials and then presided over the 2008 Estes Kefauver Award ceremony. The award winners this year are Paul Smith and Annie Hall. The Estes Kefauver Award is given to Democrats whose energy, time, and political smarts make a difference in local politics. The evening concluded with Representative JoAnne Favors recognizing the local party's tri-state efforts in getting Obama elected and then giving a call to action. Post a Reply...
