Paul SmithMr. Paul Smith has been part of the Hamilton County Democratic Party since 1961. He is a past chairman of the party and a hard-working board member. He helped manage and/or coordinate the campaigns of Mort Lloyd and Marilyn Lloyd for Congress, Ward Crutchfield for state senate, Tommie Brown and JoAnne Favors for state house, and many others such as those of C.B. Robinson and John Bailes. In the 1970s, Paul Smith was selected to the Constitutional Convention along with Rheubin Taylor and Reverend Paul McDaniel, among others. Under President Jimmy Carter, Paul worked for nuclear disarmament as a member of the Salt I Treaty, working with the U.S. Ambassador to Russia. Paul Smith has been an educator most of his life and is currently employed with the Hamilton County Department of Education. He runs the department's information services, coordinating placement of substitute teachers on a daily basis. Paul earned his Bachelor of Sciences at the University of Chattanooga and his Masters of Education at the UTC. He also studied at the Oak Ridge Institute and the National Science Foundation under Robert Oppenheimer. Politically, Paul is a passionate competitor in every election and believes there's "only one thing worse than dying, and that's losing. And this year will be a grand and glorious election." Chairman John Bailes calls Paul Smith "that one in a million who wakes up every day ready to fight for the underprivileged, the working class and the disabled.
