Our Party BlogHave your say about all things democraticSeptember 23, 2008POLL WATCH WORKSHOP AT IBEW ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 29
We expect this year's presidential election to post record turnouts with many new voters. To make sure these new voters and re-invigorated voters are facilitated correctly at the polls, we need poll watchers at every polling place on Election Day.Next Monday, we are training poll watchers for Election Day. Poll watchers help insure a fair election for all voters. Please attend the Poll Watch Workshop hosted by the Obama for America Campaign and the Hamilton County Democratic Party. This workshop will provide training to do poll watching on November 4, Election Day. EVENT: Poll Watch Workshop DATE: Monday, September 29, 2008 TIME: 6:30 - 9 p.m. PLACE: IBEW Hall off Bonny Oaks (Click Here for Map) TRAINER: Representative JoAnne Favors RSVP: John Bailes at 423-266-4125 or at wbailes1@comcast.net This post has 3 replies... John, I will be there! IDEA: go to svi.org [Sequatchie Valley Institute] and contact them about getting their group to poll-watch. Apparently most are Dems and do not have jobs that would prevent their being available on election day. Two things occur to me: When one of the poorest states in the nation makes an effort to host this $5mil debate Friday [not sure who paid], isn't it awfully RUDE to all but the rich not to show up? Also, SOMEONE needs to watch McC in Washington today and see how many lobbiests he contacts/contact him... John - a wee laugh: [and not a bad idea, actually] From a comment on Salon.com When I was a kid, my local MLA (provincial representative, essentially), was the Premier of Alberta. He decided he was too important to attend a local candidates debate, choosing instead to focus his energies on the province-wide campaign. His Liberal opponent brought a rubber chicken, and debated that. The Premier lost his seat as a result, something that virtually never happens in our parliamentary system. I can only imagine the results of boycotting an even bigger debate. Will the union be handing out information on how to intimidate without looking intimidating or do we have to actually come to the meeting to learn.
