POSTED BY STUART JAMES, CANDIDATE DISTRICT 29 STATE HOUSE OF ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 2, 2008...
I am Stuart James and I am asking for every democrat to cast their vote for me, and to work on our campaign. I decided to run for the State House because of a disconnect between the current representation and District 29.

Crime in the district is up, home foreclosures in the district are on the rise, class room sizes are not being reduced, technology is not being brought into the class room, we are not directing funding into the classroom.

Jobs are an issue particularly with the inability to bring more employers into our community, and even though we have made inroads on health care we have a long way to go to insure comprehensive health care for everyone in this state and in this nation.

We are not seeing action and resutls on these issues from the incumbent.

We need a new direction, we need to take a road not taken, making all of the difference. We need to make sure that after all of the rhetoric of the campaign is over that actions are speaking louder than words. We need to insure that our elected representatives stay in touch with the community they represent.

I am Stuart James and these are the ideals I believe in, I believe in taking a new direction, taking the road not taken by those who have been elected, a road that leads to action, a road that makes a difference.

I need your support and your vote, I need you to work the streets, and the polls, to join the train that will return the government of this state to the people. I need you to vote, to contribute, to elect a true democrat to this democratic district.

I have worked the streets of this community, I have worked to establish a new direction, to create ideas that lead to action--now I need you to do the same for me and for your community.

You will learn more as the campaign progresses. This race will not divide the party but will unite the party--this district is 70% Democratic and it needs a Democrat with a vision for the future to represent its needs. I ask all of you to join in the journey- to please vote for me, and support a new direction for District 29 and a new direction for this great state.

“I was asked to review the decision of the Election Commission regarding the rejection of the qualifying petition for State House. I reviewed the code section governing petitions, and although the code is very liberal on additional pages and appears not to require the same formalities as the issuance of the original petition, I have decided that the error is on my part and not on the part of the election commission. Therefore, I have decided not to pursue any appeal of the Commission’s decision.”

“The signatures on the photocopied petition are original and valid. However, the code appears to require that a candidate who wants extra pages go to the commission to obtain them. The election commission is allowed to photo copy additional pages, so long as the official “shall indicate in the upper right hand corner of each page that the document was photocopied by the county election commission prior to distributing the form to a candidate.” I am, therefore, accepting responsibility for the error; most of the signatures for the petition were on the copied page. Since the “buck stops with me” I accept responsibility for the petition not being accepted by the State or local officials.”

"I owe a lot to my friends like Terri Lee, Alice O'Dea, David Testerman, John Brooks, and many others who offered their support and advice. This error is a let down to them, and to everyone who gave me over 40% of the vote on the Chattanoogan.com. To them I offer my sincerest apologies."

Stuart James
