From U.S. Senate Candidate Bob Tuke:As Hurricane Gustav rapidly approaches the Gulf Coast, our thoughts are with those already affected by the coming storm: evacuees leaving their homes to rely on the kindness of strangers; families staying behind to weather the storm; and especially with all the men, women, and children for whom this scene is still fresh and far too familiar. Many of you know that evacuees from the Gulf Coast have already arrived in Chattanooga, Knoxville, Memphis, and Nashville, and they continue to arrive even now, seeking shelter from the coming storm. As we have always done in the past, it is time for Tennesseans to do what we do best: to pray with our feet, to sow hope where there is despair, and to give generously with open hearts. I started Operation Bob's Boxes as a care package drive for Tennessee troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. In the coming days, we will be helping evacuees in Tennessee and assisting in recovery efforts on the Gulf Coast with our care packages. We will be holding Bob's Boxes events in Nashville and Chattanooga tomorrow, September 1st, and all are welcome to come and help out. The Nashville care package drive will take place at 11:00 a.m. (CDT) in the Freedom Room at the Tennessee Democratic Party Headquarters. The Chattanooga care package drive will take place at 4:00 p.m. (EDT) at the Hamilton County Democratic Party headquarters. We'll provide the boxes, packaging supplies, and the postage. All you need to bring are your items for donation. For a list of items, please visit our website at Operation Bob's Boxes or call our office at 615-748-9011. While we all hope for the best, we must do everything we can to assist those who are preparing for the worst. I hope you will join us in Nashville and Chattanooga tomorrow.
